| 4th March 2024 – Message from the Secretary Tony Ellis It is with great sadness I have to inform that sadly Gordon Hilyer passed away in hospital last Friday. (14/2/25). Up until a few years ago Gordon had been President of RHP for a number of years. We send to his family our condolences, thoughts and prayers. Gordon was always the first to welcome us when we attended RHP for meetings or matches. He will be sadly missed. Message from RHP Hon Sec We have been advised that Gordon’s funeral will be taking place on Thursday 27th March. There will be a Funeral/Thanksgiving Service at St Nicholas Church, Chignal Smealy, CM1 4TA at 12:00. This will be followed by refreshments at the Village Hall, Chignal St James, CM1 4TS. We are told that the church and the village hall can only accommodate a limited number of people and the organisers need to know numbers for catering purposes. We have been asked to advise numbers by 10th.March. Therefore an idea of the likely numbers attending the Church Service and the Village Hall afterwards would be appreciated, so that I can pass this to the organisers. |
| 21st November 2024 – The Association held it’s AGM on Sunday 17th and the motion to allow ladies to join was passed with a very large majority. The Constitution has been modified to reflect this. | 9th November 2024 – Our latest indoor match at Colin Peters’ club Clacton was President George Dowding’s last presidential match and saw a nip and tuck game. We eventually lost by 99-110 over 6 rinks. George actually got a share of the top rink prize. Well done George for the game and for your year. Click for details. |

| 20th September 2024 – A mixed bag of results to report today. Firsty there was a convincing win against London Parks BA 145-100. However we couldn’t repeat that against Group 8, losing 88-148. Only solace for me was that I was in the unusual position of being on the winning rink. click for details. So that concludes the 2024 outdoor season. | 26th July 2024 – Yesterday we saw the closest possible finish to an interesting and somewhat troubled game against Group 6. There was a bowler who became ill and the ambulance service was called and another withdrawal after a few ends. Hence one game finished at 6 shots each and another resulted in a half point ending. The VPs lost by the half point but success for the second game running for John Brooks whose team beat the hosts and won the Stan Embling Cup. John played at 3 and kept reminding everyone that he never plays in that position. However an excellent performance. click here for details. |

| 25th June 2024 2 match updates, Group 4 at Haynes Park and West Mersea. Against Group 4 we had a close 116 vs 115 win. We also had a lady playing for the VPs, Jan Collins of Essex County who is a frequent guest at our matches. Against West Mersea we were comfortable winners 106 vs 83. Due to the hot weather the game was reduced to 18 ends, no trial ends, no 3s up, and a break at 9 ends. Game results can be found here |

| 22nd May 2024 – Result of the match versus Witham BC is now on the Results page. A fairly easy win for the VPs. An excellent meal was provided after the game, one of the best yours truly has had. |

| 28th March 2024 – Result of the match versus West Mersea IBC, our last of the current indoor season, is now on the Results page. One to forget however – this was not a good day at the office as we lost on all 3 rinks. We now go on to the outdoor season with a visit to Severalls BC on 9th May. |
| 22nd March 2024 – Result of the match versus Jacks Centre now on the Results page. Going into the last end of the last match the score was 117-117. Well done to Jacks for winning that end by 3. The Jacks Centre Captain said he worked hard to get his best players out in an effort to win the game due to the last few years where the VPs had good wins. |

| 25th January 2024 – Results updated up to yesterday’s match against SCRIBOS. To see the results for 2024 click here. Mixed fortunes for the first two games. A disappointing loss against Essex County IBC, followed by our win against SCRIBOS. Unfortunately yesterday’s match was reduced to 5 rinks with the VPs “donating” members to SCRIBOS. On my rink Ian Dudley played for SCRIBOS and put in an excellent performance. On the next rink George Dowding our new President was in excellent form with his 3 compatriots winning the Top Rink prize. Well done George. |

| 8th January 2023 – I have just received a phone call informing me of the death of Ken Fox. Ken although not a current member, supported the Association for many years. Ken and Peggy were also very strong supporters on the Vice Presidents Tour and tourists spent many happy hours with them both. | 17th December 2022 – As some of you may know, Norman McDonald suddenly passed away earlier this week. Norman had been a member of the Association since 2010 and will be sorely missed. Ken Perry |
| 16th November 2022 – As many of you will know, Alan Francis passed away suddenly a few weeks ago. Alan had been a member of the Association since 2009 and was well respected throughout the Chelmsford district. He also served as an auditor of the Associations accounts in recent years. He was very helpful to me during my years as your Match Secretary, turning out on numerous occasions at the very last moment when we were short of players. He will be sorely missed. Ken Perry |

| I7th January 2022 – It is with great sadness that I write to inform you of the passing of Peter Russell, a long-time member and a Past President of the Essex Vice Presidents’ Association.Peter passed away on December 17th 2001 although we have only just found out due to the terrible postal service we are receiving at present. |
| 1st January 2022 – We are sorry to have to announce the death of George Coster. George was President in 2005 and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. |
